Virgin and Child with Angels - Folio 7v

One of the earliest surviving images of the Virgin and Child in Western art, this iconic page from the Book of Kells presents Mary enthroned with the Christ Child upon her lap, surrounded by four radiant angels. Rich with sacred symbolism and luminous color, the image reveals the mystery of the Incarnation through the visionary language of Celtic illumination.

As the only depiction of Mary within the Book of Kells, Folio 7v holds a singular place within the manuscript tradition — both intimate and majestic, human and divine.

Hand-painted in enamel on traditional Palestinian hand-blown glass from Bethlehem, this ornament unites Celtic illumination with ancient Middle Eastern glassmaking traditions.
