Hounds of Éire

In Irish mythology, hounds were sacred companions of warriors, guardians of the Otherworld, and symbols of loyalty, courage, and protection. Their forms appear throughout Celtic art, woven into eternal knots that symbolize the unbroken bond between spirit and nature.

Though not directly depicted in the Book of Kells, this design is inspired by the flowing interlace and illuminated artistry of medieval Irish manuscripts.
