 A cat - alert and coiled prowls across the Gospel of Matthew. It reflects both playful imagination and the scribe’s love of pattern and color. In the 9th C. poem  Pangur Bán, a monk compares his search for wisdom to his white cat Pangur’s hunt for mice. Both find joy in their own work .
